I Don’t Buy Marmalade Anymore A Poem by Karina Tynan

I don’t buy marmalade anymore

for the very simple reason, you are not here to eat it

and it doesn’t suit my digestion; the citrus you know

leaves a rankness inside that cuts into my flora and fauna,

upsets an otherwise harmonious digestive course.

I always wondered at your liking for it

as it was a sour one I served up and

no way to begin the day.

I feel sure now the future is in honey.

I will always have honey.

Yes, my cupboards will drip.
